David, Gisèle and Willow Moseley

David Moseley lived at the bottom of Hyde Road with his wife and ten-year-old daughter. He was sitting on the porch the evening of the fire trying to get his cat to come out from the bushes. The cat, nervous about the wind, had been scared into hiding. David was playing his guitar and calling to the cat when he smelled smoke. They saw the fire burning a ring around the Tea Garden and commenced running from house to car with belongings. They had maybe ten minutes get out safely. The wind at such high speeds compresses down the canyon. "If I hadn't been sitting outside and caught the smoke, we would never have had enough time," David said. They had to drive back up Hyde Road, essentially toward the fire, to make their escape. David is a contractor and a musician. He lost valuable machinery and equipment too heavy to transport. His band, "Jason Campbell and the Drive," played at EOS on Friday the 21st. He called it a celebration in honor of life and all that was not lost.
